With a background in mathematics, art, business, and education, Mary has spent much of her life exploring the places where creativity and learning meet. She earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Portland State University and went on to run math programs designed to encourage girls to see themselves as capable mathematicians.
In 2021, Mary published Girls Count, her first book, which grew out of her experiences working with girls in mathematics and her own journey through a mathematics degree. The book combines personal experience, reflection, and storytelling to explore what it means to find your place in a field where you don't always see yourself represented.
Mary is now writing a middle-grade fiction series featuring Wren Harbury, an 11-year-old girl with a knack for getting herself into adventures. The first book, Wren Harbury Saves the Marcomville Market, follows Wren as she discovers that being resourceful, curious, and willing to speak up can make a bigger difference than she ever imagined.
A lifelong creator, entrepreneur, and educator, Mary continues to write stories that celebrate curiosity, courage, creativity, and the wonderfully complicated process of growing into yourself.
